The story of Boonville, California’s Anderson Valley Brewing Company is an interesting one and this brewery is heavily influenced by the local history of the Anderson Valley area. Legend has it that the first European explorers found their way to the valley by accident in 1851 and were amazed by the beauty of this secluded valley. By the 1880’s, over 1000 settlers had made the precipitous journey to this valley and started settlements. The settlement of Boonville quickly became the commercial centre of this valley. Due to the isolated nature of the logging and farming community in Anderson Valley, the locals began creating a self-developed language which has garnered worldwide attention as a linguistic phenomenon. Many of the Anderson Valley beer names come from some of the terms found in this unique language, named “Boontling”.
