American Black Ale, 8.2% ABV
A: Pours very dark brown, nearly black with a small khaki head that leaves a bit of lace.
N: Roasted malts, dark chocolate orange, and mild coffee aromas dominate. It’s a perfect blend of sweet and not-so-sweet – one of my favorite qualities of this beer style.
T: Insanely similar to the nose. Roasted malts hit up front, followed by dark chocolate, bitter orange rind. Pleasant grapefruit notes and a light boozy astringency on the finish. Mild bitter flavors throughout, always present but not at all overwhelming.
M: Medium body, well carbonated. About what I’ve come to expect from black ales/cascadian dark ales/whatever you like to call them.
