On Friday August 29 the S4BeerClub held its 3rd international tasting, this month’s subject being that stalwart of English beers, Newcastle Brown Ale. S4BeerClub members who took part in this tasting sent me their reviews of this beer, and all reviews rated this beer average or lower. This is not surprising, however, since this is a mass-produced beer, now made under license by Heineken, so we weren’t expecting much from this old classic. How does Newcastle Brown Ale describe itself?
“Recipe developed by Colonel J. Porter, aka “The Original Dogwalker”, in 1927 in Newcastle, England. In Newcastle, England, “Walking the Dog” is Geordie slang for hitting the pub for a Newcastle Brown Ale.vIt’s a bit of code to use when you’re looking to meet friends and enjoy a couple pints of Newcastle Brown Ale. No actual dog required.”
