The DNA of IPA?: Charles Wells (@CharlesWellsLtd) & Dogfish Head (@dogfishbeer) – DNA New World IPA



Eve bought this beer home for me from Tescos (of all places).  I used to like a Wells Bombadier before I turned into a complete craft beer so-and-so, and I’ve also reviewed Dogfish Head 60 minute IPA when I was last over in the US ( so for me this looked like a very intriguing collaboration.

When poured out, DNA definitely looked the part – a darkish cognac colour (no haze – pity) and a bit of head that hung about attractively.

The aroma reminded me a lot of Bombardier but with a load of exciting resinous hops on the top.  It’s a nice contrast, but wasn’t quite as powerfully hoppy as I remembered the DFH 60 minute IPA being – but, despite that, it certainly pressed all the right buttons perfectly adequately.

The taste was of good thick caramelly IPA base malts and a largish bitterness that crashed…
