Hunting lodge meets 1970s refurbished basement. Chevy Chase meets Gaslight Anthem. Fifty West is the cool kid brewery without the cockiness, the should-be hipster joint if it wasn’t for the laidback bartenders and patrons that range from devoted brew-heads to Mariemont parents letting loose.
Fifty West’s attitude manages to be smart without being pretentious, cozy without being cutesy, and vintage without being tacky. Just walking into the low ceilinged, wood paneled bar lets you know it’s not like the other taprooms in Cincinnati. From the copper bar to the refurbished VW van that now acts as a booth in the small courtyard outside, Fifty West could get by on looks alone. It feels like a neighborhood joint with a story, and with minimal effort – some loyalty and good cheer – you too can feel like you’re part of the neighborhood, despite what your zip code may be.
